ICYMI: WWE x Final Fantasy XIV and Interview with Xavier Woods

April 4, 2017

In case you missed it this past weekend, WWE’s annual Wrestlemania went down and surprised Final Fantasy fans.

Last Saturday, WWE’s developmental division, NXT, were airing Final Fantasy XIV commercials for Stormblood. This got some wrestling fans scratching their heads, but fans of Final Fantasy were both excited and confused. Final Fantasy XIV’s official Twitter teased a special collaboration for the main event, Wrestlemania.

Of course, we immediately assumed Xavier Woods, also known as Austin Creed, host of UpUpDownDown, one third of New Day, and friend of Limit Break Radio, had a hand in this. He is no stranger to the Final Fantasy series as he also plays Final Fantasy XIV, maining the bard job.

And looks like the @gaems_vp case saves me again. Snowstorms coming but as long as I’ve got ff14 then I’m fine 😁 A post shared by Austin Creed (@xavierwoodsphd) on

Wrestlemania opened with hosts New Day, donning Final Fantasy gear. Xavier wearing the Bard outfit, accompanied by Francesca II (the trombone), Big E in the Samurai outfit with his long great katana, and Kofi Kingston in the very recognizable Red Mage outfit with the signature rapier and feather in his hat, accompanied with a moogle on his shoulder. The trio also had their ice cream cart with a fat chocobo and an umbrella with moogles floating.

Xavier Woods Interview

Last year in November, we had the pleasure to speak with Xavier Woods, also known as Austin Creed, host of UpUpDownDown and one third of New Day! We aired this interview on our sister podcast show, Final Encounter Cast, and recently, on Checkpoint Radio.
