Normally I thoroughly enjoy your casts (there were even likable portions in this one), but this episode galvanized my dislike for your story discussions. There is a consistent theme in a lot of your story-focused episodes of failing at perceiving implications of story, character body language and cinematic focus, much less narrative context or recollection of plot and events.

You discussed for half an hour Aymeric “going off script” when he said it just after it was mentioned that the bar maid was watching the summit and he amended his script from his original subject to speak directly to the crowd about their suffering and the importance of moving on from it. You have to remember, he took the stage to defend himself as much as the treaty (recall the whole “getting shivved” part?) and threw it to the wind to have a heart-to-heart with Ishgardian lowborn.

Lucia’s willingness to follow him is even more significant in light of him basically blowing whatever options he had to appease the noble houses by reaching out to the commoners — which may well have sparked the demand for Lord Fortemps to have to step down for his continued collaboration with “The Patricide”.

Again, you guys are great hosts, but if you’re going to shit all over the story, have some fucking decency and actually pay attention to what you’re criticizing. Cracking jokes on a subject you hold a defensible position in can be both funny and clever, but this was all done in a way that painfully highlighted what you missed.

This comment has gone on long enough, so:

TL;DR – You guys suck at paying attention to the story. If you want cliff notes, I’ve got time and boredom to spare, but you’re down a listener for every episode that even begins to mention “story” until it becomes at least a little less of a drone strike on my will to live than reading an FFXIV Reddit theory-craft thread.

  6. It just reinforces my point that the narrative doesn’t hang together as well when there are 4 month gaps in between major plot points. Just because you caught something the 5 of us missed is commendable, but you’re neither the first nor the last person to do this. We have said this multiple times: the point of this show is that we’re NOT experts, we’re just your average FFXIV players. What you DONT address is the TONS of perfectly valid and insightful point we did raise. I hear what you’re saying but I think you misunderstand what this show is about: we’re not Ethys Asher, we’re not Mr Happy. We’re not going to research everything before we talk about it. This is off the cuff, improvised discussion between normal FFXIV players.

TL;DR – you suck at paying attention to the, literally, bajillion times we’ve addressed this on the show. We’ll be wrong about stuff. Get over it. Pack up your shitty “ugh you guys should totally know more than you do” attitude and your perfectly correct observations and shove them squarely up your, what I can only assume, is an all too tight asshole.

Aniero, you are — hands down — the most fun person I know to get a rise out of. (Thank you for making my week.)

And I can pack plenty of perfect observations and my shitty attitude up my won’t-be-tight-when-I’m-done asshole, thank you very much. But, this being the internet, where I can’t actually concede any point and I’ll still (no matter how much I bitch) end up using you guys as a preventative measure against tying a noose when I’m stuck in my office instead of home and on FFXIV:

Up yours, fuck Mr. Happy, fuck you and your too-long TL;DRs, and fuck your perfectly agreeable point that SE should not seriously expect us to stay emotionally and intellectually invested in a story with a release schedule that’s akin to trying to watch Game of Thrones at a 1-episode-a-month pace.
